Overcoming some sound problems, probably caused by the NSA monitoring communications between Canada and the USA, this week's wrap tackles the season opener, the transfer window, and the direction of the club.
The Green-Whites kicked off the Bundesliga season without Jens Stage but with a strong 20 minutes before a forgettable rest of the match in Freiburg. 
Jim and Christian don't take long to go off script commiserating about what feels like another repeat of last season, the transfer deadline desperation. Is there a plan? Is there money? Is Clem even allowed to spend money?
The conversation glides into a discussion of what happened on the pitch Sunday, finally getting to the good, the bad, and the Bremen. 
Then they discuss the transfer news as the deadline approaches including the departure of Samuel Mbangula on loan to Bologna, some newcomers (pending physicals), and a player who sees a better future in Augsburg than Bremen. 
Finally, they look to the upcoming decision on who will replace Herbertus Hess-Grunewald. Will the supervisory board be able to balance the need to keep the soul of the club while acknowledging that the business of football might require some fresh ideas?

And just like that, summer is over and we're back for another season of Werder Bremen football.
Jim and Christian dive right in, covering the comings and goings so far this off-season including how, after over €50 million in transfers out, there doesn't seem to be any money to bring in new fullbacks. A transfer window that began with so much promise is limping toward completion.
The first round of the Pokal was kinder to Werder than last season, but things will probably get trickier than a 5th division minnow when the second round draw comes out in a few weeks. The highs, the lows, and the Werder of it all are covered.
Will Musah's agent cool his jets? Or anything else?
Do we still have faith in Bangs?
Will Christian side with the police or HSV?

The 2025-26 season was forgettable for a lot of reasons, an aborted rebuilding project, loan rules snafus, a relegation battle that lasted far too long, and a general feeling of hopelessness that anything will get better in the future.
On the final River Island Wrap of the season, Werder NA stalwart Sooner joins the show to help look back one final time at the seasons that was. Everyone offers some high points and low points from the season. They share their choices for team MVP, Top Newcomer, and the Loanee of the Year. Final grades are shared. 
Then the talk turns to the future, starting with the board meeting to vote on Clemens Fritz's future. Spoiler alert, the fix was in. The final signings of the Johannes Jahns era are noted, the Mio and Stage sales are too, and things wrap up with the question, "What would be a good summer for Werder Bremen?"
It's the last show for awhile, and the pod sounds like it could use a trip to the beach to regroup and recharge before the next campaign begins. 
 

Werder Bremen took the field for the final time in the 2025-26 season on Saturday at the Weserstadion and the result was familiar for fans of the Green-Whites. 
Jim spent the match with the people, well Sooner, and he shares his experiences from his matchday adventure into the city. Christian shares how his Saturday went, and the match takes center stage for a quick discussion.
Then the topic of Leo Bittencourt is addressed one final time. Is he a legend? What do we even mean by a legend? Has the prolonged time in the desert damaged the football sensibilities of the average Werder supporter? Leo had some parting thoughts, and the gents have some parting thoughts for Leo. 
The Ultras had some thoughts for team management, but they best not hold their breath expecting anything to come of it. 
In light of the dissatisfaction among club supporters, was the front office shakeup announced in the days after the match enough to mollify anyone? Jim wonders if Clem and Herr Doktor Dumpling have orchestrated a public relations coup, shielding themselves from criticism, while insisting there's nothing to discuss because next season is already here. 
Sooner shares a heartfelt coda to the season and the end of an era while Jim can't keep his mind off touchline fashion.

Like Reba, Werder Bremen are survivors, thanks to failure from both St. Pauli and Wolfsburg on Matchday 33. 
After some quatsch about family gatherings, Jim and Christian turn their attention to the match in Sinsheim where Salim Musah played just under a quarter hour before being subbed off because Yuki Sugawara's ill-timed calf-stomping challenge in the 2nd minute. They discuss the shady shennanigans of the ball persons, the confrontation between Mio Backhaus and Justin Njinmah after the match, and the difficulties engendered by VAR. Could VAR be improved if the video officials were stationed at Delphi?
Next the focus turns to the squad building project for next season with discussions of Kevin, Chuki, and Yuki, and another turn into the negotiating mind of Clemens Fritz. Should players be seen as human beings or robots dancing for our entertainment? 
Finally, how did the rice balls turn out.

Daniel Thiune's first match point is a dud, but the teams behind Bremen fail to capitalize and Werder's fail floor is officially the playoff, and they will only find themselves there if they surrender a significant goal difference lead. 
It's the night before Top Chef Toronto and Christian is cooking up fresh Bremen thoughts, along with some rice balls, while Jim wonders if he's being mogged when he always thought he had quite a masculine side profile.
There's a reluctant version of Ups and Downs, and then the game thankfully goes in the rear view mirror. 
They guys talk about the cancelled fan march and then turn to the thought of bringing Niclas Fuellkrug back to the Weser.

Once again, the Fussballgott glides across the pitch and guides the ball into the back of the net to set the stage for a nervy draw at Stuttgart. 
The gents are back to discuss the match including a lopsided edition of Ups and Downs, and it's not the way you think. Why were there so many through balls to nowhere, and is it maybe a good thing? 
Jim asks whether Yuki's limitations are showing, and Christian wonders why Milosevic can't get a full 90. Is this a pragmatic Daniel Thiune? And yes, back 5 talk. 
Then things move to the Ultras where Jim has learned enough to know he doesn't know much, and Christian tries to paint some context.

The thrill of victory was the order of the day when Werder took on HSV on Sunday at the Weser. 
Jim and Christian are here to discuss it all. The lineup changes, the substitutions, the bookings. Jens Stage for Director of Football? Marco Friedl's fashion choices. Was Daniel Thiune coming from the skate park or going to a rap battle? 
Then things turn to the supporters, the good the bad, and the typical HSV. The guys celebrate the contributions of the Werder fans from Friday at practice to the elaborate choreo before the match and the relentless support during it, they take a minute to feel good about fan culture before turning to their rude guests from the Elbe port city. At a time when politicians are making an issue of fan behaviour, why would HSV try to ruin it for everyone? 
Jim takes a minute to correct his bad math, and the show looks at the table and foward to Sunday's match at Stuttgart. 
We don't love the sound either, but we're doing the best we can.

6,000 Werder supporters brought their A-game to the Domstadt, hoping to see the Green-Whites take points in a battle against a fellow relegation candidate, but sadly saw things derail before a half-hour had been played. 
The guys are here to discuss the match including the early penalty, the red card, the lineup, and Leo, always Leo. Christian didn't make it to the end, but Mio had to stay until Full Time.
Plus, is Samuel Mbangula the couch you got rent-to-own but can't sit on it because of a broken support? And did you know Köln had cheerleaders? 
Then they turn to the upcoming Nordderby and look for reasons to dislike HSV as well as reasons to have any hope. If all they're missing is the goals, do they have anything?
All these questions, probably, and technical difficulties, because it's been that kind of rookie season for the pod. 
 
 

Ole Werner's return to the Weser leaves the home fans disappointed and the away block heading for the trains early. 
Jim and Christian are back from the international break to discuss the latest chapter in the relegation survival saga. 
Jim learns Salzburg is in Austria, Christian learns Marv has more goals than he would have thought, and they both learn what Daniel Thioune thinks of Mick Schmetgens. 
After Easter talk and a breakdown of the match, the guys turn their attention to Mitchell Weiser's coming out party at halftime on Sky. Is sideswipping Clem the best way to get a new contract:?
Finally the guys clean some things up from the previous week's show, and they better get used to it, because this show is going to need some corrections next week.
