Midweek football was back for Werder fans, if only briefly, as a Saturday league match in Mainz was followed up quickly by a Pokal round of 32 showdown with Dortmund in the beehive. 
Jim and Christian break down both matches, with the Good the Bad and the Werder.

All that and of course some silliness on this week's edition of the Wrap. 
 
 

Jim and Christian start the show with some dog talk, and a little bit about their individual settings for taking in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Paderborn at the Weserstadion. No horseflies, no beef sandwiches, no wake-up calls.
Then they take a look at the match and ask how much disappointment is fair when you fall down 0-2 to a team that had yet to score away from home.
They try to find some good in Good, Bad, Werder, but it isn’t easy, especially when the Werder of it all might be a curse as much as a blessing for supporters of the club.
They discuss the team being booed off the field by the home fans at halftime and what it says about the expectations and the frustrations of the fans before turning to how they feel about Clemens Fritz’s comments about the scene. Will these rebukes make Clem less likely to agree a new contract if one is offered?
With Werder now sitting on the same points after 6 matches as the relegation year, is there cause for concern with a start that felt so promising a week ago?
Niclas Füllkrug’s play has led to questions about a potential place in the German national team. Do we even want that?
Pronunciation Corner takes a trip to the Baltic nations and Citizenship Corner leads to calls to free Sonja!
Finally the boys revisit their discussion from last week about the club org chart and the search for a new club president. Jim tries to explain it, you be the judge that explanation’s usefullness. No matter what, we know the Soup Dumplings is going the way of unfiltered cigarettes, and the new president is definitely not Dries Mertens.

Werder Bremen returned from the international break and showed once again why 2-0 is the most dangerous lead for their opponents, earning a 2-2 draw in a match that saw 4 goals after the 80th minute. 
Jim and Christian are back as well, and on top of their game as always. 
Canadian Thanksgiving. Brooklyn turkeys. Is bear jerky food or something behind the paywall on Christian's OnlyFans? 
Match talk is as fun as always, with good, bad, Werder, and the hosts concede an absolutely careless own goal discussing Coach Thioune's substitutions.
Then they turn their reckelss speculations to Pilawa talk, where they wonder if Werder's newly departed Squad Planner really misses his family or just didn't want to work for Clem anymore. The guys wonder how much Pilawa's departure will hurt the plan for the future. 
Finally, an update from the totally open, totally transparent, totally democratic search for a successor to team president Dr. Hubertus Hess Gruenewald. Does the track team really have that much influence? How is it an election if there is only one candidate. 
Oh, and the return of Pronunciation Corner could be imminent.

The results continue to resemble something written in a green and white fever dream as Werder Bremen head into the international break with their biggest full-strength comeback since 2022. 
The pod dispenses with formal introductions and throws guest Paul into the match talk fire. Matchday experiences, the Good the Bad and the Werder, and some thoughts on who is hot and who is not. If you have ever wondered about why Mitch in Heels is a thing, Christian will clarify. 
Are we starting to believe in Daniel Thiune? Is this what Horstball was supposed to look like? Is the Clemens Fritz bandwagon going to need more seats? The questions are fun and good, because everything is fun and good when you have 7 points after 4 matches.

Werder managed a comeback on the scoresheet with a better second half than the first, and Mitchell Weiser completed his comeback after over a year away from first team action to help the club earn a 1-1 draw away at Köln. 
Jim and Christian look at the match first, including the good, the bad, and the Werder, before turning to Clemens Fritz's TV appearance that appears to be part of an effort at more transparency from Werder management. 
The sounds of Toronto make an appearance, Jim might not be a good listener, and perhaps the club's finances can be enhanced with a unique marketing opportunity for the Chinese market.

After a magical day at the Weser for Werder and their supporters, Jim and Christian are here to discuss what they saw. 
First they discuss the game, including the good, the bad, and the Werder of it all. Was Sooner the key to the Werder victory? What does this victory say about the direction of the club for the rest of the season? There's also news on an improved Fandango experience and ways to watch from Canada.
The talk then turns to the dreary world of Bremen finances and comment on a recent article from Deichstube that sheds more light on the the dreaded "structural deficit" that continues to haunt the club.
Finally, a listener question from a Werder NA legend asks whether it's more improbable that Bremen haven't played a European tie since 2010, or that they seem to be turning into a feeder club for FC Freiburg.

Overcoming some sound problems, probably caused by the NSA monitoring communications between Canada and the USA, this week's wrap tackles the season opener, the transfer window, and the direction of the club.
The Green-Whites kicked off the Bundesliga season without Jens Stage but with a strong 20 minutes before a forgettable rest of the match in Freiburg. 
Jim and Christian don't take long to go off script commiserating about what feels like another repeat of last season, the transfer deadline desperation. Is there a plan? Is there money? Is Clem even allowed to spend money?
The conversation glides into a discussion of what happened on the pitch Sunday, finally getting to the good, the bad, and the Bremen. 
Then they discuss the transfer news as the deadline approaches including the departure of Samuel Mbangula on loan to Bologna, some newcomers (pending physicals), and a player who sees a better future in Augsburg than Bremen. 
Finally, they look to the upcoming decision on who will replace Herbertus Hess-Grunewald. Will the supervisory board be able to balance the need to keep the soul of the club while acknowledging that the business of football might require some fresh ideas?

And just like that, summer is over and we're back for another season of Werder Bremen football.
Jim and Christian dive right in, covering the comings and goings so far this off-season including how, after over €50 million in transfers out, there doesn't seem to be any money to bring in new fullbacks. A transfer window that began with so much promise is limping toward completion.
The first round of the Pokal was kinder to Werder than last season, but things will probably get trickier than a 5th division minnow when the second round draw comes out in a few weeks. The highs, the lows, and the Werder of it all are covered.
Will Musah's agent cool his jets? Or anything else?
Do we still have faith in Bangs?
Will Christian side with the police or HSV? 
Has Jim learned anything about producing a podcast?

It might be a long season, but the Wrap is here for the ride.  

The 2025-26 season was forgettable for a lot of reasons, an aborted rebuilding project, loan rules snafus, a relegation battle that lasted far too long, and a general feeling of hopelessness that anything will get better in the future.
On the final River Island Wrap of the season, Werder NA stalwart Sooner joins the show to help look back one final time at the seasons that was. Everyone offers some high points and low points from the season. They share their choices for team MVP, Top Newcomer, and the Loanee of the Year. Final grades are shared. 
Then the talk turns to the future, starting with the board meeting to vote on Clemens Fritz's future. Spoiler alert, the fix was in. The final signings of the Johannes Jahns era are noted, the Mio and Stage sales are too, and things wrap up with the question, "What would be a good summer for Werder Bremen?"
It's the last show for awhile, and the pod sounds like it could use a trip to the beach to regroup and recharge before the next campaign begins. 
 

Werder Bremen took the field for the final time in the 2025-26 season on Saturday at the Weserstadion and the result was familiar for fans of the Green-Whites. 
Jim spent the match with the people, well Sooner, and he shares his experiences from his matchday adventure into the city. Christian shares how his Saturday went, and the match takes center stage for a quick discussion.
Then the topic of Leo Bittencourt is addressed one final time. Is he a legend? What do we even mean by a legend? Has the prolonged time in the desert damaged the football sensibilities of the average Werder supporter? Leo had some parting thoughts, and the gents have some parting thoughts for Leo. 
The Ultras had some thoughts for team management, but they best not hold their breath expecting anything to come of it. 
In light of the dissatisfaction among club supporters, was the front office shakeup announced in the days after the match enough to mollify anyone? Jim wonders if Clem and Herr Doktor Dumpling have orchestrated a public relations coup, shielding themselves from criticism, while insisting there's nothing to discuss because next season is already here. 
Sooner shares a heartfelt coda to the season and the end of an era while Jim can't keep his mind off touchline fashion.
